Allegra at 2.5 years

IMG_4077Two-and-a-half going on 22, my big girl Allegra.  I can’t believe she is 2.5 years old already, it seems like only yesterday that she was my baby girl.  Well, she’ll always be my baby girl of course, but since Claudia’s arrival in January, she has become my big girl and almost overnight, my very grown-up girl.

Maddeningly infuriating and stubborn at times, but sweet and funny and kind and loving and caring and smart and beautiful, that’s my Allegra boo.  So here she is, at 2.5 years old.  And who is she?

Allegra loves…

Princesses.  Cinderella.  Snow White.  Little Mermaid.  Sleeping Beauty.  Beauty & The Beast.  Peppa Pig.  Peppa Pig World.  The colour pink.  Handbags, especially her Hello Kitty bag in the shape of Hello Kitty’s head.  Bracelets, especially pink ones.  Necklaces, especially Disney Princess ones.  Pants, especially Disney Princess ones.  Swings. Slides. Playgrounds.  Bouncy Castles.  Cake. Snacks of any sort, ideally as long as they are of the sweet or biscuit variety.  Vanilla ice cream.  Nighties (because they are like beautiful princess dresses that she can wear in bed).  Ballet.  Dancing.  Candy by Robbie Williams. Live While We’re Young and You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful by One Direction.  Her scooter.  Her party dresses.  Her Cinderella sparkly-silver shoes.  Her Little Us dolls, especially Chloe.  Photographs.  The iPad, especially watching Peppa on the iPad.  The paddling pool.  Sausages.  Mashed potato.  Beans.  Cheese.  Her family.  Her friends.  Her books, especially Peppa books and Disney Princess books.  Her baby Annabelle doll. which she has renamed baby Evelyn after a friend at pre-school.  Bedtime stories, lots of them.  Going swimming with Daddy.  Milk in the morning and before bed.  Being cosy under a blanket.  Hiding, particularly with someone!  Making a tent in the playroom or garden and playing inside.  Having picnics, real ones or pretend.  Putting on lip-balm, which she calls lipstick.  Apple juice.  Balloons.  Angelina Ballerina.  Playing with other children, especially older ones.  Her baby sister. Nursery Rhymes, especially Little Bo Peep and Mary Mary Quite Contrary.  Madagascar, the film.

Allegra loathes…

Going to bed at night (sometimes she goes without a fuss, but more often than not, she just doesn’t want to go to bed!).  Most vegetables, although she will eat carrots and peas and has just discovered she likes cherry tomatoes.  Having her hair washed (this is better than it was, but she’d still rather not if given the choice!).  Getting in the buggy.  Brushing her teeth (we’re working on this!).  Brushing her hair (again, working on this one!).  Having sun-cream put on her.  Being denied cake or snacks or sweets!

It sounds silly to say it but at 2.5 years, she already has a big personality and really does know her own mind!  She drives me nuts on a daily basis when I have to repeatedly ask her not to climb on the sofa/walk on the edge of the pavement/touch things she shouldn’t etc.  She’s perfected the art of ignoring me and doing the opposite of what I say.  But… for the most part she is a really good little girl who loves her mummy and daddy and baby sister and is a pleasure to be around.

Her language ability astounds me on a daily basis and I have to pinch myself to remind myself that she is still only 2.5 years old.  Some of the things she comes out with and the words she’ll produce, it’s just incredible.  She can count to 30 and do more or less any puzzle at a frighteningly fast speed, and her knowledge of Peppa Pig could give her a specialist subject on MasterMind (and me mind you…!).

She can be fiercely independent – “no mummy, you can’t come to the toilet with me, go away, I go by myself” *locks door in public toilet, aaagh!!* – and wants to do pretty much everything for herself, but then she loves to snuggle on the sofa or mummy and daddy’s bed and will cuddle me and say “aaaaah my mummy” and she wants me to say “aaaah my ‘llegra” and we repeat this about 10 times in a row and then giggle.

My beautiful, precious little girl.  You make me laugh, you make me smile, you make my heart swell, and you drive me insane in equal measure.  I love you from the top of your crazy blonde curly-haired head to the tip of your painted-pink toes (she has also discovered a love of painted toenails).  To steal a quote from one of your favourite songs: “baby you light up my world like nobody else” – love you always boogaloo xoxo.

    • Aww thx, yes our two biggest girls do seem quite alike – will have to get them together some day! Imagine the cuteness overload of pics of the two of them getting up to mischief!

    • Actually, I’m the same – I’m so not a morning person and I never want to go to bed at night! Yes, you’re so right, lovely to capture memories on our blogs although what they’ll make of it when they’re older…?! xx

I love comments, so make my day!
