We are in the full throes of weaning with baby Claudia at the moment. It’s going “so-so” I’d say. I’m doing a mixture of baby-led and purees, she seems to prefer to feed herself rather than being spoon-fed, but this of course leads to a whole lotta mess and as anybody who knows me will know, mess brings me out in hives. So, all in all, I’m doing a lot of itching and scratching. Fun.
Anyway, enough of me and my oddities and back to the matter in hand: weaning. It was quite timely therefore, that we received this parcel of fruitiness at our door last week: NEW Cow & Gate 100% Fruit Pouches. We’ve been putting them to the test these past few days.
Each 80g pouch is filled with 100% handpicked fruit, pureed, and is created using only baby grade ingredients, so contains ‘no nasties’. They also contain added vitamin C, which delivers one third of your little one’s daily requirement alongside the one portion of fruit per serving (1 portion of fruit = 40-80g for a 1 year old).
There are six different fruity flavours in the range: Apple; Apple & Pear; Pear; Apple, Strawberry, & Banana; Apple & Banana; and Fruit Mix. We tried four of the six and as purees go, it seemed Claudia was indeed a fan!
She tried them solo and we also tried them mixed with yoghurt – a particular winner for breakfast – and I even mixed the Apple one and the Pear one in with my own vegetable purees to try to make them more appealing when she turned her nose up at a few things, which seemed to help things like courgette become all the more palatable!
Great for on the go, I like the fact that they are quite small and so they feel like the right sort of portion size for babies just starting out on their weaning journey. The pouches are recommended for babies aged 4-6 months but of course can also be enjoyed by older babies, in fact Allegra even got in on the act with some of them, insisting she try them out, and she’s 2-and-a-half!
Cow & Gate 100% Fruit Pouches have an RRP of 0.79p and are available nation-wide from Morrisons, Tesco, and Asda. I think they’re really handy to have in the cupboard, as well as to throw into your bag when you’re off out for the day. Yum!
